If you haven’t noticed by now, I get emotional about my food. It’s the most vital thing you can do for supreme health and well-being, so why not fall in love?
Dear Plum,
It’s been a long time. I missed you desperately. I saw you out of the corner of my eye today and was stunned by your perfect shape. I longed to run to you, but I held back. You left me so quickly last fall.
Why do you come around so infrequently? I can appreciate that you feel most attractive in the summer. I don’t disagree. Is it just for me that you go to great measures to come to my neighborhood in such a lovely state? I like to think it is.
I’m just barely building up the courage to hold you again. Frankly, I’m scared to fall in love only for you to walk out again. Your allure is too powerful for me to resist though.
I think of your virtues often; your perfectly smooth and tight skin, that shade of unfathomably rich purple. None other boasts such deep, dark color. Grape is transparent. You’re mysterious.
Your radiance transcends your physical beauty. I feel healthy in your presence; like the very best version of myself.
Is it your scent? Light and floral, but not quite tropical, you’re well aware of your power and tease unmercifully with it.
I’m ecstatic that you’re back in town, plum. I’ll exercise patience, but I’ll be devouring your sweet, explosive, juicy flesh in short order.
With anxious anticipation,
Kap
On this Sweet Thursday, seize the opportunity to replace your sugary, highly processed snacks with a piece of whole, organic summer fruit. Not only will you be crowding out the processed foods in your life, you’ll find that flavors begin to explode on your palate. You might even find your new soulmate.

Kap-
I was intrigued by you’re skate board post. Could you recommend a board for less than 50 bucks that will hold 205lbs?
Gabe Kapler says
Hey, Colt. I’d hit craigslist or ebay and search for penny-boards. They will have no problem holding 205 and I bet you find the right price for your budget.
Be well,
Kap

Gabe Kapler says

Kap,
Couldn’t agree more. I had a plum yesterday after dinner and it was amazing. Thanks again for the great posts and recommendations. I started your workout routine today and loved it. Oh, and as a diehard Sox fan, thanks again for 2004!
Gabe Kapler says
Absolutely, Alex. Love the plum as a dessert, brother. Good stuff.
Michelle Williams says
LMAO. You crack me up kid. I have to say I just had a red plum and almonds for my morning snack, I have to agree it was delicious! Have a great one!
Gabe Kapler says
Almonds and plums? Whoa. Next level.
Veronica says
Well…my goodness. No piece of writing has ever made me wish to be a piece of fruit before. But now? I want to be a plum!!!
You are awesome. I’m late to the party, but I finally made it here. Your passion is inspiring and motivating. Thank you!
Gabe Kapler says
So grateful, Veronica. Thanks for the kind words.
Warmly,
Kap

I picked up some Black Velvet Apricots this weekend as I had never seen nor tried them before. In case you don’t know, they are a cross between a plum and an apricot – and they are exquisite. I prefer to pop the entire thing in my mouth so none of the amazing juice runs down my face. Did I say amazing? AMAZING. Thought of you, please try them if you haven’t already.
Yours in all things summery, juicy, and fruity,
V
Wendi says
Kap,
Seems you have multiple talents on and off the field. Nice piece of writing!!! I’m still laughing!
Gabe Kapler says
If you’re laughing, Wendi, I’m smiling. Peace, Kap.
Gavin says
Very clever. Wishing I would have thought of this one. You are en fuego over the last…I don’t know, something. Will you still have gas in the cognitive tank for September/October?
Gabe Kapler says
Believe it, Gavin.
Bigstocky says
Oh but thy peace makes thy plum cower when it rolls into the room.
Gabe Kapler says
Whoa. Dig that.
Stan Mickus says
Love the plum Kap!
Gabe Kapler says
Indeed, Stan.
Bigstocky says
From the words of Homer Simpson… .D’OH! That should say peach.
Gabe Kapler says
Don’t get me started on peaches.

Kap, I had some time to think about your “Plum Poetry” and I need to comment from a doddering leading edge baby boomers point of view, (I hope you don’t block me)!
Remember the other end of a plums life cycle is a prune which I find as a symbolism for life. Using baseball as an analogy; you reach your prime as a baseball player somewhere between age 20 and 35, then you start to wrinkle and sag until people have little use for you.
Until they find that you still have some sweetness and purpose left in you. For example dating myself, think about a young Yogi Berra and now an old Yogi who as a young man won and still holds the record for World Series wins, but as an older man stayed in the spotlight with his quotes and misquotes. He probably holds the record for the most quoted baseball player of all times. Now as an old man he has kept his likability quotient and name recognition very high. Even today’s young people know him. I feel if you keep writing on your blogs you will follow his lead, you certainly have a different way of looking at life..
.
I told you I was doddering! I will finish with this, I am at my 128th day of continued gym workouts no misses, I have lost 50+ lbs. and I am feeling great and starting to unwrinkle a little bit.and standing taller, thanks for the inspiration…
One last thing the Plum in it’s wrinkled prune form makes a great laxative!
