Visual Inspiration

June 2, 2015 By Gabe Kapler 16 Comments

You know we don’t have rules about our posts.

Sure, this is a lifestyle/fitness site but we can do whatever we want on any given day.

This morning I was inspired by the following image (I adore powerful photography). Before I share my initial reaction to it, I want to open this up and see how it lands with some of our readers. Leave a comment, and I’ll jump in and discuss in the days to come.

Strong mind,
Kap

Looks like someone just learned the power of music.

I envisioned him hearing this as his first sound ever:

Children hold nothing back when displaying their raw emotions and reactions. Most adults have grown to become guarded in letting their true colors shine through.

Masks. Are they necessary? Protective? Do they serve a function in society?

      • Chris

Depends on the situation or society. Masking pain to hide a weakness against a predator or foe? Yes. Masking distaste of food at your in-law’s dinner table? Probably. Masking enjoyment of a song or film out of fear of rejection or embarrassment? Not so much, but that seems to be our current society at times.

It just puts off the inevitable. Sooner or later, the real you has to show up. I’d rather just be myself ahead of time and not have to explain who the masked person was.

Reminds me of my son when he first heard real music…not that kiddy stuff…

Just doing a drive-by, Kap, to say that Skrillex song is great. Love it. No comment on the pic, it just reminds me my earphones broke today and I need new ones. Peace! -Michelle

The word that comes to mind is shock; the innocent imagination the boy has is being challenged in intense, sudden dimensions

I think a persons own personality, experiance & ambitions come through in their interpretation of a picture like this- this picture to me is that joyful excitement of seeing something wonderful for the first time- Disneyland, the “valleys of manhattan” or that first ball game.
It’s an expression I want to see on my sons face many times, I believe in the value & joy of imagination & “magic” & I try to be positive as much as possible.
With a slightly different personal perspective it is certainly a picture which could be construed negatively.

A sense of wonder. We’re part of an amazing universe where simplicity and genius intertwine. Mindfulness is a common theme in KL, and the more mindful we are, the more enjoy the wonders around and within us. What an experience it would be for us to do the things we do as if it were the first time and might be the last!

he was awed by whatever he was listening to or whatever he saw that has nothing to do with the sound from the earphone

He’s listening to Denny Matthews radio of broadcast of the Royals WS game 7 last year. Pretty much my same expression as I sat in my 1st base side seat watching Bumgarner mow down my guys.
